Here’s good news for the auto enthusiasts – the Volkswagen Golf GTI is all set to make its way to India very soon. Its official launch date is yet to be announced, but the hot-hatch is likely to debut this month. Select Volkswagen dealerships have already started accepting pre-bookings for the model. It will be brought in as a fully import unit under the government’s scheme that allows OEMs to import 2,500 units of the vehicles without any homologation procedures. That means the Golf GTI will carry a premium price tag when launched. We expect it to cost upwards of Rs 52 lakh (ex-showroom).
Engine, Power, Top Speed:
Starting with its powertrain, the hot-hatch sources power from a 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This setup pushes out a maximum power of 245bhp and 370Nm, making it an exciting machine to drive on urban roads. It has FWD (front-wheel drive) system. The Volkswagen Golf GTI is claimed to do 0 to 100kmph in 5.9 seconds – pretty fast!

The hot-hatch has an electronic speed limit of 250kmph. Volkswagen has also equipped the Golf GTI with the optional adaptive suspension system, an electronically controlled front axle differential lock and progressive steering, which add more to its thrilling performance.
Cabin & Features:
It’s not just the driving dynamics, the Volkswagen Golf GTI offers a sporty cabin with all-black theme, a digital instrument cluster with GTI-specific graphics, tartan seat upholstery and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and a voice assistant with ChatGPT integration. It also gets a layered dashboard design, a three-spoke steering wheel with GTI badge, wireless phone charger, automatic AC unit, ambient lighting and several more features.
Sporty Design:
The Golf GTI carries a sporty design language featuring matrix LED headlamps, a signature grille with ‘VW’ logo and GTI badge and bumper with honeycomb mesh pattern at the front. The hot-hatch comes with the 18-inch Richmond alloy wheels along with the optional 19-inch units. Some of its other design highlights include GTI badge on the fender and the tailgate, dual exhaust setup at the rear and a sporty diffuser.
