Revanth raises bar for MLAs, wants unanimous wins in local polls

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy Thursday laid down a road map for Congress MLAs asking them to prove themselves by securing maximum number of local body victories in their constituencies and, most importantly, striving for unanimous wins in gram panchayats.
During a four-hour long meeting with party MLAs and MLCs, Revanth underscored the need for focused efforts on development and stronger coordination with ministers to ensure the success of the party in the local body elections.
The meeting, held at the Marri Chenna Reddy Human Resource Development Institute, saw the participation of 56 MLAs and 10 MLCs. Revanth made it clear that coordination with ministers was crucial and instructed the MLAs to discuss with ministers for funds related to developmental projects, including temples, cement concrete roads, and other local initiatives, ahead of the local body elections.
The CM also urged the legislators to refrain from making public statements that could damage the party’s image. AICC minder for Telangana, Deepa Dasmunsi, emphasised that internal disagreements should be resolved within the party. She stressed that district in-charge ministers need to work closely with MLAs to bridge gaps and ensure a unified approach.
The meeting also saw disciplinary action against MLC Teenmar Mallanna, who was issued a show-cause notice for his comments on the caste survey report. He has been given time till Feb 12 to explain his stance.
TPCC chief B Mahesh Kumar Goud said, “we addressed all the concerns the MLAs had regarding the development and welfare activities of the Congress govt. We encouraged them to take full advantage of the caste survey and the BC reservations being offered by the party,” he said.
Sources indicated that MLAs and MLCs were assigned the task of ensuring the effective implementation of the 42 per cent party tickets for BC aspirants. Detailed discussions on the caste census, with a presentation on the scientific approach to the survey, were held highlighting how it could benefit the BC community.
Some MLAs expressed concern over the party’s inability to leverage welfare schemes and guarantees.
The party is planning a major public meeting in Suryapet to celebrate the completion of the caste survey, and SC categorisation in Medak. These meetings, scheduled for the end of the month, will be attended by Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
