Hyderabad: The Telangana caste census has not been properly carried out in Hyderabad, claimed the chairman of Telangana Commission for Backward Classes, G Niranjan.
He asked for an explanation about enumerators skipping home visits in certain areas due to which a percentage of BC individuals were excluded from the survey.
“The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has not carried out the survey accurately,” said Niranjan. “There are a lot of people complaining that the enumerators did not visit their homes. There are many homes which have not been surveyed. The commission is asking the GHMC reasons for not surveying these areas,” said Niranjan.
“Due to this negligence, some people living in GHMC areas have not been properly enumerated leading to a discrepancy in numbers and the percentage of Backward Classes in urban areas has come down. We want an explanation from the GHMC on the way the survey was carried out in Hyderabad and its outskirts,” demanded Niranjan.

Maximum complaints were about missing surveyors
There are 3,56,323 households which have not been surveyed, according to the government report on the Telangana caste census.
The commission, in a letter to the GHMC commissioner on Friday, said that the maximum number of complaints in Hyderabad were marked under the ‘no enumerators came for survey’ aspect.
Niranjan asks for names and contacts of enumerators for the Hyderabad survey
In the letter, the BC commission asked for the total number of households in GHMC, the homes surveyed, the number of enumerators and the enumerators assigned for each division with their names and contact details. “These must be submitted to the commission within a week,” said Niranjan.
The Telangana caste census report was tabled in the special Assembly and there has been a hue and cry by Backward Class associations that their representation was not complete.
In a series of meetings with the associations, it has been found that the data from Hyderabad was not up to mark. For that reason, the commission has asked GHMC to furnish all details about the methodology of the survey and the extent of outreach done by the enumerators in Hyderabad.
