VISAKHAPATNAM: Stray dogs have killed a spotted deer near an apartment at Yendada in Vizag city on Friday evening.
The locals said a herd of deer entered Yendada locality more than six weeks ago and they have been staying in the shrubs near the residential complexes.
“We have spotted a herd of deer in the bushes a few weeks ago. The animals have been facing difficulties to come out from the location as the stray dogs are chasing the animals. The herd used to visit the dustbins in the locality in search of the food,” said D Satyam and Ravi, locals of Yendada.
The locals said they informed the forest department and police department a few weeks ago and appealed to them to rescue the stranded herd, but nothing has been done. They suspect that the animals in the Zoo or Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary in Vizag came out from their base, ventured into the human-habitations and stranded in the bushes.
A woman from the Yendada locality said a pack of stray dogs had chased the deer before killing it.
The officials from the forest department rushed to the spot on receiving the information and shifted the dead animal for postmortem. The officials said they have found some dog bite injury marks on the animal. The forest department officials suspect that the deer came out from the zoo and ventured into the residential colony as the location of the incident is close to the zoo. After ascertaining the cause of death, the animal will be created.
