Hyderabad, Feb 7th 2025: Telangana Bengali Film Festival, organised by Hyderabad Bangalee Samity, has been showcasing the richness of regional cinema since 2017. In the past editions alongside Bengali movies, several regional films from Tamil, Malayalam, Odia and Telugu along with award-winning international films have been showcased and this year too the tradition is being followed.
The department of language and culture, Telangana, has been associated with the TBFF from its inception. It has been our pleasure that luminaries like Jaya Prada, Aparna Sen, Rakhee Gulzar, Goutam Ghose, Sekhar Kammula, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Moonmoon Sen have graced the festival.
This Year Megastar Abir Chatterjee willl Receive the Superstar of the year award on Feb 7, Friday “TBFF will also pay tribute to Shyam Benegal, the master storyteller who championed films that shed light on social realities and worked seamlessly blending artistry with a deep social conscience, offering audiences stories that were both profoundly human and universally relevant,” said Joy Kumar Dutta, general secretary of HBS.
Benegal’s ability to hold a mirror to society redefined Indian filmmaking and set the stage for meaningful cinema, which will be showcased through Sooraj ka Satwaa Ghoda and Junoon at the festival.
This year two Telugu Films, Gangster By Debutant Director Chandra Sekhar Rathod And Sharathulu Varthishthai By Akshara Kumar Are Being Screened.
“For the Bengali film Industry that suffers from a tangible lack of pan-India reach and visibility, there’s no denying the importance of a festival like Telangana Bengali film festival,” said Moushumi Choudhary, the chairperson of TBFF and President of HBS.
Eight well-acclaimed Bengali films and one award-winning documentary on Aparna Sen will be screened at TBFF.
Parama is a biographical documentary on the life and times of Aparna Sen and her contribution towards Indian cinema.
Deep Fridge which has won awards in several categories across many festivals, featuring Abir Chatterjee and Tanusri Chakraborty.
Padatik by Srijit Mukherjee is a biopic of auteur Mrinal Sen who completes his birth centenary last year.
Chaalchitro has won the hearts of the audience as they watched the mystery thriller with bated breath.
Eta Amader Golpo, a blockbuster movie is the story of two elderly people and how their friendship blooms.
