86-year-old Veljan Group chairman V C Janardhan Rao fatally stabbed by grandson during a heated argument over inheritance.
February 9, 2025: In a tragic incident in Hyderabad, 86-year-old industrialist and Veljan Group chairman V C Janardhan Rao was murdered by his 28-year-old grandson, K Kirti Teja, over a property dispute. The incident occurred on February 6 at Rao’s residence in Somajiguda, police confirmed.
Teja, who had recently returned to Hyderabad after completing his master’s degree in the US, reportedly attacked his grandfather with a knife following an argument about the division of Rao’s property. The heated exchange escalated while Teja’s mother, who had accompanied him to Rao’s home, was momentarily out of the room preparing coffee.
When Rao’s daughter tried to intervene, Teja turned violent and stabbed her as well. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently receiving treatment for her injuries. Teja was arrested by Panjagutta police on February 8.

Police Investigation:
Preliminary investigations reveal that Teja accused his grandfather of showing indifference toward him since childhood and refusing to share the property. Unconfirmed reports suggested the victim may have been stabbed over 70 times, but police stated the exact number of wounds will be clarified in the post-mortem examination report.
Teja has been charged with murder, and a formal investigation is underway.
