VIJAYAWADA: A 19-year-old engineering student was allegedly raped and later, blackmailed with photographs near Kanchikacherla in NTR district.
According to Nandigama rural inspector D Chavan, the survivor is a second year BTech student who resided in a hostel. She was friends with a 21-year-old man and the duo often went out for lunch. During one such occasion, the man introduced the girl to his friend. After a few days, the man’s friend started pursuing the girl. She accompanied the latter for lunch once when a 25-year-old painter in the locality, who is reportedly a social media activist of the YSRCP, saw her. He befriended the girl and started warning her about her other two male friends and asked her to keep her distance from them.
On Jan 12, the painter invited the girl for a function at his house. However, when the girl arrived, she found that the house was empty. The man raped the girl and clicked obscene photographs and videos of her. He later shared those with the girl’s two male friends.
Based on her statement, the cops registered a case.
