Following a complaint, the Tappachabutra police took up an investigation. The temple premises were thoroughly examined, and four dedicated teams were dispatched to scrutinise the CCTV camera footage from the vicinity.

A CCTV camera positioned to the north of the temple captured the culprit in the act. It turned out to be a hungry cat. The grainy footage showed a small, shadowy figure trotting across the temple grounds with a lump of meat clenched firmly in its mouth. The cat was then seen placing the meat behind the idol before walking away.

With this evidence, the police confirmed that no foul play was involved. The protesters disappeared after learning about the discovery, informed the police.
