Vijayawada: In a significant boost to rural financial inclusion, 1,866 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in Andhra Pradesh transitioned into Common Service Centres (CSCs), offering multiple digital and banking services to farmers and rural citizens. These PACS-CSCs now facilitate credit disbursement, insurance, Aadhaar services, and other essential services to strengthen the cooperative banking framework in the state.
Common Service Centres are a key component of the Digital India initiative launched by the govt of India. These centres aim to provide essential govt and non-govt services to citizens, particularly in rural and remote areas, through digital means.
According to the Minister of Cooperation’s data, between April 1, 2024, and Dec 31, 2024, PACS functioning as CSCs in Andhra Pradesh disbursed Rs 12,905.95 crore in loans through 7,55,653 loan accounts. District-wise, Eluru recorded the highest loan disbursement of Rs 1,754.55 crore, followed by NTR district with Rs 1,251.51 crore and West Godavari with Rs 1,183.54 crore.
Notably, some districts saw fewer loan disbursements. For instance, ASR district recorded the lowest among all districts, followed by Visakhapatnam with Rs 42.89 crore.
A total of 70,471 farmers are actively availing services from PACS-CSCs across Andhra Pradesh. Among them, Konaseema district leads with 9,115 farmers, followed by Srikakulam (5,182) and West Godavari (5,132). However, Visakhapatnam saw the lowest participation, with only 263 farmers utilising these services.
Among the 1,866 PACS-CSCs, Krishna district has the highest number, with 382 societies functioning as CSCs, followed by East Godavari (288) and West Godavari (253). The districts with the fewest PACS-CSCs include Srikakulam (48) and Chittoor (60).
To enhance the effectiveness of PACS-CSCs, 1,812 PACS underwent specialised training. East Godavari leads the training initiative with 340 PACS trained, followed by Krishna (367) and West Godavari (240).
The initiative to integrate PACS with CSC services is part of the govt of India’s larger digital inclusion strategy, spearheaded by the ministry of cooperation, led by Amit Shah. The PACS-CSCs now provide over 300 e-services, including banking, insurance, agricultural support, and Aadhaar-related services.
With the rapid expansion of PACS-CSCs, Andhra Pradesh’s rural economy is set to witness improved access to financial resources, helping small and marginal farmers secure loans, insurance, and digital services without depending on traditional banking institutions.
