CCTV footage has confirmed that a cat carried a piece of meat inside the Sankata Vimochana Hanuman Temple in Hyderabad’s Tappachabutra area, putting an end to speculation over the incident.
The BJP had earlier rejected the ‘animal brought it’ theory when the police initially speculated it.
On Wednesday morning, temple authorities discovered meat near the Shiva Lingam, prompting concern among devotees. People quickly gathered outside the temple and created a ruckus, with right-wing groups calling for action.
Police launched an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage from the temple premises.
“The north-facing camera clearly shows a cat entering the temple with a piece of meat in its mouth and dropping it near the Shiva Lingam. There is no foul play,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West Zone) G Chandra Mohan.
The discovery had briefly triggered tensions, with local BJP leaders alleging a pattern of similar incidents. However, police have urged the public not to spread misinformation and commended officers for swiftly resolving the matter.
BJP MLA Raja Singh had alleged that the police always say that a dog or cat brought the meat. “This has become their regular explanation. We demand strict action,” he stated.
