Telangana government will invest $15 billion on a slew of projects to transform Hyderabad into a global city of excellence with long term sustainability at heart, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said on Thursday.
Metro Rail expansion, Regional Ring Road, Future City, AI City, Young India Skills University, EV manufacturing hub to Musi river rejuvenation figure in the list of projects.
Besides these, the government under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has also taken the bold initiative of HYDRAA (the agency tasked with removal of unauthorised structures from water bodies) as a measure to ensure that the city’s progress is not measured only in economic terms but also on long term sustainability parameters, he said.
Mr. Sridhar Babu, who was speaking at the opening of a 1.1 million sq. ft. building at Microsoft India Development Centre (IDC) campus here by the Chief Minister, said that the $15 billion investment forms part of the Telangana 2.0 growth story. “The investment isn’t just about upgrading infrastructure — it’s about reshaping Hyderabad into one of the world’s most advanced, future-ready cities. It will be the city for the future, driving investments, innovation and accelerated growth,” he asserted.
Hyderabad houses Microsoft’s largest tech development campus anywhere outside the firm’s headquarters in Redmond, U.S. The company’s engagement spans almost three decades and opening of the new building signals its unwavering confidence in the city’s growth trajectory. Microsoft will be investing ₹15,000 crore on cutting-edge AI and data centre positioning in the city as the country’s largest hub for AI-driven innovations and digital transformation, Mr. Sridhar Babu said.
Microsoft IDC managing director Rajiv Kumar said that Hyderabad was where the firm’s IDC took birth and over the years grown exponentially to become a cornerstone of Microsoft’s global software development. The Hyderabad campus is a hub for innovation contributing to advancements across AI for Microsoft products and the growth and success of IDC would not have been possible without the unwavering support and visionary leadership of government.
The campus is spread over about 54 acres at Gachibowli and the new building is the fourth such on it. Over the years, the IDC expanded to Bengaluru, Noida and by virtue of an acquisition to Pune.
