Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has asked the irrigation authorities to improve monitoring and accountability on the progress of projects and any laxity in executing the works decided won’t be tolerated.

He said this at a meeting with senior officials of the department here on Saturday to review the State’s irrigation strategy ahead of the second All India State Water Ministers’ Conference 2025 scheduled to be held in Udaipur (Rajasthan) on February 18 and 19.

Telangana’s priorities in water governance, cost-effective irrigation expansion and completion of pending projects were discussed at the meeting as they would be presented by the State at the national conference.

The Minister stated that the Congress government in Telangana was committed to achieve maximum ayacut expansion with minimal expenditure. He instructed the officials to prioritise projects which could be completed with least investment while delivering the highest irrigation benefits.

He stated that unlike the previous government which spent heavily with limited results, the current administration was aiming to irrigate an additional 30 lakh acres by accelerating the completion of stalled and pending projects.

Officials presented updates on major irrigation projects, including SLBC (Srisailam Left Bank Canal), Dindi, Palamuru-Rangareddy, Devadula and others at the meeting. The Minister instructed that strict timelines be set for these projects to ensure that they were completed at the earliest as they were crucial for improving water availability to farmers.

Secretary (Irrigation) Rahul Bojja, Special Secretary Prashant J. Patil, Advisor Aditya Nath Das, Engineer-in-Chief G. Anil Kumar, Chief Engineers K. Srinivas, V. Ajay Kumar, Ramesh Babu, Srinivas Reddy and others participated in the meeting.
