Two Guillain-Barre Syndrome patients at Guntur GGH on ventilator

Three people are being treated for Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) at Government General Hospital in Guntur, and two patients were discharged on Saturday.

Two of the three patients getting treatment in the hospital are on ventilators, and one is in the ward, said the hospital authorities.

The condition of one of the patients on the ventilator is unstable as she suffered cardiac arrest and high blood pressure, Nagarjunakonda Venkata Sundarachary, Additional DME and Principal of Guntur Medical College (GMC), told The Hindu on Saturday.

Dr. Sundarachary said that GBS is a neurological disorder that causes the immune system to attack one’s own peripheral nerves. It is not a new disease and many patients were treated here at GGH Guntur even before, he said.
