NIZAMABAD: The Telangana State Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGNPDCL) has launched a comprehensive action plan to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the upcoming summer peak. Officials are upgrading infrastructure — including additional feeders, transformers, and substations — in all circles of the undivided Nizamabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, and Khammam districts. An estimated ₹150 crore will be spent on these works.
TGNPDCL CMD Karnati Varun Reddy directed officials to stay vigilant, anticipating a sharp rise in power demand due to increased use of fans, air coolers, and air conditioners. Officials expect power consumption to surge by 15 per cent or more compared to previous years, potentially reaching 6,000 MW in April and May.
Varun Reddy noted that, for the first time, substations are being interlinked to minimise interruptions. “If a tree falls on electric lines, restoration could take 2-3 hours, but interlinking substations can solve the issue in 2-3 minutes,” he explained. TGNPDCL has already completed this interlinking work for 498 out of 1,500 substations, and targets interlinking 1,250 substations by April 2025. An SMS alert system is also being introduced to notify residents and field staff of any power outages.
On Thursday, power demand within TGNPDCL limits touched 5,300 MW; officials expect it to exceed 6,000 MW in the summer peak. Additional capacity is available through power banking agreements with Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, and from the Yadadri Thermal Power Station.
In Nizamabad, superintending engineer R. Ravinder announced seven new substations, including an indoor substation at Phulong Rythu Bazaar. Consumers can call the toll-free number 1912 to report power-related issues. Ravinder said extra power transformers and distribution transformers (DTRs) would help address consumer grievances more effectively.
