Two students were arrested by the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Airport police on February 17, for performing dangerous stunts with luxury cars on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), near Shamshabad in Telangana, in the early hours of February 9.
The accused, both 25 years old, removed the number plates from their BMW and Fortuner vehicles before engaging in the stunts. However, their reckless act was captured on CCTV cameras installed along the ORR stretch, allowing the RGI Airport police to trace the vehicles and identify the drivers. The police subsequently arrested the two, Mohammed Obaidullah from Rajendranagar and Zohair Siddiqui, from Malakpet, and seized the luxury cars.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police KS Rao, the police took swift action after reviewing the CCTV footage and tracking the suspects. The incident has raised concerns over illegal street racing and stunt driving on Hyderabad’s roads, prompting authorities to intensify surveillance on key routes.
In a similar incident in December 2024, six youngsters were arrested and their car seized after they were caught engaging in reckless driving and dangerous stunts on the Tirumala Ghat Road in Andhra Pradesh. The group was found hanging from the car doors and roof, taking selfies in a high-risk manner, causing chaos on the road and endangering the lives of other motorists.
The incident occurred near Harini on the Up-Ghat Road, which connects Alipiri to Tirumala. The complainant, MV Narasimha Rao, a vigilance inspector for the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), reported the matter to the police later.
