Members of Telugu Dandu, an organisation working for the promotion of Telugu language, paid tributes to the statue of Telugu Thalli, to mark International Mother Language Day, at Maddilapalem Junction here on Friday.

Students of GVMC Primary School and School of Wonder Kids participated in the programme and presented songs and poems in honour of Telugu thalli.
Telugu Dandu president Paravasthu Suri said that on the suggestion of UNESCO, International Mother Language Day was being observed since 2000, and it was being celebrated by those who love their mother tongue. The programme also paid tributes to the students of Bangladesh, who had sacrificed their lives for the protection of their mother tongue. He called upon Telugu people to draw inspiration from them and strive to uphold their mother tongue.
