On the expected lines, Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon is off to an excellent start at the Tamil Nadu box office. Right from the advance sales, Dragon displayed a strong lead over its box office opponent, NEEK. The youthful entertainer, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, received fantastic reviews and extraordinary word of mouth.
According to trade reports, Dragon earned close to Rs. 6 crore gross in Tamil Nadu. This is the biggest opener for Pradeep, and had there been no clash, the opening would have been much bigger. On the other hand, NEEK is off to a dull start. Despite promising reviews, the romantic entertainer earned only about Rs. 1 crore gross in Tamil Nadu.
Since Dhanush’s name was associated with NEEK, there were high expectations from the box office point of view, but the film did not meet them. Compared to Dragon, the star cast of NEEK was relatively new, which is one more reason for the low opening. As per the initial trends on Saturday, Dragon is showing tremendous growth, while NEEK is maintaining the same levels as yesterday.
