As construction of Indiramma houses gets underway, masons from rural areas of Telangana are being trained in innovative construction methods which would help in cutting down cost of construction without foregoing the strength and quality. The training is provided by the State government in tie-up with Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) at National Academy of construction (NAC), Hyderabad.
New construction practices like pile foundations, open foundations, short columns, rat-trap masonry, filler roofings and others would be taught to them. Techniques in proper selection of materials, use of materials to achieve higher strengths without wastage would be shared with the masons. Basic principles of construction and safety in construction would be taught too, as per a press release.

Financial assistance of ₹5 lakh would be provided towards construction of the Indiramma Houses. Centre would provide assistance of ₹72,000 out of the ₹5 lakh assistance promised by the State government for construction of the house, as per the press note. The State intends to construct 20 lakh houses in the coming four years.
The managing director of Telangana Housing Corporation, V.P. Gautam said that a mason is a key person in building the house on 400-square-foot land with the ₹5 lakh assistance. He said that rural masons in every village would be trained to upgrade their skills. At least one mason in each of the 12,672 villages in Telangana would be imparted with training.
In the first phase of the program, it was proposed to train 1,200 master masons, with two masons per mandal, in the ‘Cost effective innovative housing technologies’. The second phase of training will be taken up at the district units of NAC selecting masons from the villages where Indiramma houses are sanctioned.
