Chhaava Riot Controversy Sparks Major Outrage

There was always a possibility that Chhaava would spark strong reactions from certain sections of the audience. However, escalating those emotions into acts of vandalism and violence crosses a dangerous line.

It has been ten days since the film’s release. While it has grossed over ₹300 crores at the box office, it has also fueled outrage among some individuals deeply affected by the depiction of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s treatment by the Mughals.

Recently, a group of people were found vandalizing and urinating on the street signs of Akbar Road, Humayun Road, and Babar Road in Delhi.

Two of the individuals were identified- one being Daksh Chaudhary, who had previously slapped the congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar, and Vijay Hindu.

A video of the group is making rounds on social media. In it, the group is seen blackening the name Akbar and replacing it with an image of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

They smeared ink on the board of Babur Road as well and pasted an image of Shivaji.

In the video, Daksh also demands the government change the names of these streets, otherwise, they will uproot the boards.

Meanwhile, on X (formerly Twitter), a user alleged that an individual with possible ISIS connections was inciting others to retaliate against those in the video.

This has led to further tensions, with many calling for legal action against those issuing threats.

It is absolutely surprising to see how people are quick to defend the wrong actions of their own people.

Chhaava was bound to stir controversy. But the unfolding events highlight how films are more than just entertainment. They shape perspectives, influence ideologies, and, as seen here, can ignite real-world conflicts.

Let us hope that this film doesn’t incite a nationwide riot which can disrupt peace.
