TGMC files cases against 15 fake doctors

The Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) has intensified its crackdown on unauthorised medical practitioners, filing cases against 15 Rural Medical Practitioners (RMPs) in the State, with 10 cases registered in Hyderabad, and five in Gajwel. Despite over 400 cases being registered against such individuals in the past, many continue to operate illegally, exceeding their permitted scope of practice and in the process jeopardising public health, the TGMC said.

The latest inspections, conducted in Hyderabad’s Jeedimetla and Miyapur areas, as well as Gajwel, led to the registration of cases under Sections 34 and 54 of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act and Telangana Medical Practitioners (TGMP) Act.

The 15 accused individuals were found running unlicensed medical centres and administering treatments beyond their legal capacity. The police stations where the cases were registered include Miyapur, Jeedimetla, Dundigal, Gajwel and Gouraram.

TGMC Vice Chairman Dr. G. Srinivas reaffirmed that strict action will be taken against those practicing medicine without proper qualifications. He highlighted that RMPs who do not have MBBS degree or equivalent medical training are administering antibiotics, steroids, and painkillers irresponsibly, posing a severe risk to public health.

“The responsibility of safeguarding public health falls on all of us. According to the NMC Act, only qualified MBBS doctors are permitted to practice allopathic medicine. RMPs and PMPs have no legal right to present themselves as medical practitioners. Training or recognising such individuals is not only illegal but also a serious public health hazard,” said TGMC Public Relations Committee Chairman Dr. Naresh Kumar.
