Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday urged defence minister Rajnath Singh to declare the area between Hyderabad and Bengaluru as the defence industrial corridor due to their significant contribution to the defence, aerospace and IT sector.
Speaking at an event organised by DRDO, the Chief Minister said: “Every year, Telangana sends one lakh students to the US. We want state-level engineers and scientists to lead development here. Hence, events like these hold great value. Also, start-up infrastructure in these sectors need to pick up.”
Hyderabad has several defence research and manufacturing establishments such as DRDO, Nuclear Fuel Complex, Midhani, Bharat Dynamics Limited, BrahMos Integration Complex, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s avionics division, Medak Ordnance Factory among others in the public sector. Tata Advanced Systems, Honeywell Technologies, GE, Tata Sikorsky and others are in the private sector.
Bengaluru has several important defence and aerospace facilities such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s headquarters, Isro’s command centre, and several other private companies.
