Congress mlas from the Madiga Community in Telangana have written to all india conference (AICC) Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, Urging Her to Ensure cabinet representation in the upcoming expansion.
In their letter, the legislators stressed the community’s strong support for the Congress party, both historically and in the recent [2023] Telangana Assembly elections. They said that Madiga population in the State had grown to nearly 47 lakh and continues to be a key electoral base for the party.
The mlas are Mandula Samel (Thungathurthy), Kavvampally Satyanarayana (Manakondur), Vemula Veeresham (Nakrekal), Thota Laxmikantha Rao (Zukkal), Adluri Lakshman Kumar (Dharmapuri) Yadaiah (chevella).
The MLAs pointed out that the community was not allotted a single MP seat (Nagarkurnool, Peddapalli, and Warangal SC reserved seats in the State) in the recent [2024] Lok Sabha elections, despite the demographic strength and a significant presence in the SC reserved constituencies . They expressed concern over their absence in the State Cabinet and called for corrective action to ensure inclusivity and fair representation.
“A representative from our community in the Cabinet would ensure that our voices are heard and our concerns addressed effectively,” the letter stated, adding that such a step would reinforce the party’s commitment to social justice and strengthen its ties with the community.
The legislators emphasised that Congress’ national leadership, including Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhiand K.C. Venugopal, has consistently advocated for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. They expressed confidence that Natarajan would take their appeal into consideration while finalizing the cabinet expansion.
The request for representation comes amid speculations that the high command is considering the name of a Mala community MLA for the Cabinet berth.
