Vijayawada: Jaggaiahpet has become the first constituency in the state to have closed circuit surveillance cameras covering the entire assembly segment.
CC cameras have been installed in all 71 villages in Jaggayyapeta, Penuganchiprolu, and Vatsavai mandals. Local legislator Sriram Rajagopal (Tataiah) rolled out the project with the support of local donors and business community.
As many as four CCTV cameras have been installed in each of the 71 villages in the constituency. Vijayawada city police commissioner SV Rajasekhara Babu closely monitored the project by installing the CC cameras at vantage points, including intersections, entry and exit roads of the villages. Home minister Vangalapudi Anitha, local legislator Rajagopal, DGP Harish Kumar Gupta, City Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhara Babu inaugurated the CC cameras project in Jaggaiahpet town on Thursday.
“Jaggaiahpet has become the model constituency in the state with 100 percent CC camera coverage. We appreciate the initiatives of Rajasekhara Babu and Rajagopal. Steps have also been taken to install CC cameras not only on the streets but also apartments. As many as 529 CC cameras have been installed in the constituency to ensure the safety and security of people,” the home minister said.
She said the state govt is committed to bring law and order on track by cracking the whip on errant forces.
“The chief minister is very particular about the safety of women and girl children in the state. The CC cameras project was revived across the state soon after Nara Chandrababu Naidu took over the reins of the state. The previous YSRCP govt failed to release funds even for the management of cameras installed during the previous TDP regime,” Anitha added, while vowing to install CCTV cameras in every village and make Andhra Pradesh the safest state in the country.
Stating that the Jaggaiahpet project made her compete with them and complete the project in her own (Payakaraopet) constituency, the minister said the hands of the police would be strengthened with the installation of CC cameras and usage of drones. “Vizianagaram police recently caught some persons involved in gambling by sitting inside a lorry in a remote place with the help of drones. Those indulging in anti-social activities will not be spared. The govt has have already created Shakti app and Shakti teams to protect women,” Anitha said.
