A pregnant woman was brutally assaulted by her husband in public at Hyderabad’s Gachibowli neighbourhood, leaving her grievously injured. The husband was arrested after the incident and its video went viral on social media on Sunday.
The Gachibowli police registered a case of attempted murder against Md Basrath, 32, under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 109(1) in connection with the assault on his wife Shabana Parveen, 22, who had recently been discharged from a hospital after treatment for gynaecological issues.
Basrath, an interior decoration worker, has been remanded in judicial custody. According to the police, he and Parveen, a native of West Bengal, had been married since October 2024. They have been living at Aditya Nagar in Hafeezpet and had frequent fights at home.
“The husband and wife were having family disputes. She is alive and her condition is critical,” an officer from the Gachibowli police station said.
On the night of April 1, Parveen, who is four months pregnant, was returning after being discharged from the hospital when Basrath attacked her by the side of the road, following an argument.
According to the police, Basrath picked up a concrete block from the roadside and attacked her and fled the place fearing she had died.
The police reached the spot and shifted her to hospital.

In the video of the incident, a man can be seen throwing a concrete block at a woman several times till she lies still.
