2,873 people booked for drunk driving in Greater Hyderabad on New Year’s Eve | Hyderabad News

As many as 2,873 people were booked for drunk driving on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1 across Greater Hyderabad, comprising Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerate. The figure is lower than last year’s New Year’s Eve figures of 2,972.

According to the data available, Hyderabad police booked 1,415 people, while Cyberabad and Rachakonda police booked 839 and 619 cases of drunk driving. As part of stringent vigilance against driving under the influence of alcohol, the police imposed checkpoints at several important junctions from Tuesday evening.

Among those caught in Hyderabad are 1,234 two-wheelers, 42 three-wheelers and 135 four-wheelers. The Cyberabad police caught 685 two-wheelers, 18 three-wheelers, and 181 four-wheelers, as their drivers were found to be driving under the influence. Similarly, the Rachakonda police caught 526 two-wheelers, 26 three-wheelers, and 64 four-wheelers.

While the overall numbers fell, the number of cases registered in Hyderabad commissionerate limits increased from 1,247 to 1,415 this year. Whereas, in Cyberabad limits, cases fell from 1,222 to 839 this year.

In the Hyderabad commissionerate, 120 people recorded blood alcohol content (BAC) levels between 200 and 500mg/100ml. In Cyberabad, three people recorded BAC levels exceeding 500 mg/ml.

Traffic police officials said violators would be produced in court in due course of time after filing chargesheets, and their driving licences would be seized and sent to the regional transport authority concerned for suspension as per Section 19 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
