Parts of Hyderabad experience a spell of rain, adverse weather disrupts flight operations

Parts of Hyderabad experienced a spell of summer rain in the evening and driven winds that made motorists seek shelter on the roads. Malkajgiri (9.5 mm), Serilingampalli (7.5 mm), Himayatnagar (3.8 mm), and Ramachandrapuram (3.5 mm) were some of the areas that experienced a wet spell. People got a break from the hot temperatures experienced till the afternoon as the weather turned cool and breezy in the evening.

Meanwhile, adverse weather conditions over Hyderabad on Thursday evening led to the diversion of two flights that were scheduled to land at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA).

IndiGo flight 6E 6417, operating on the Darbhanga to Hyderabad route, was diverted to Vijayawada, while Air India flight AI 2531 from Mumbai to Hyderabad was diverted to Nagpur, airport sources confirmed. The diversions were prompted by strong winds and thunderstorms that swept through the city, affecting visibility and safety parameters for landing.

In response to the weather-related disruptions, IndiGo issued a travel advisory cautioning passengers about potential delays and changes in flight schedules. “Due to strong winds and thunderstorms, flights to and from Hyderabad may be impacted. Please stay updated on your flight status in real time. Our teams are actively monitoring the situation and will have smooth operations back to track as soon as the weather plays nice,” the airline said.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who is also Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister, directed officials to be alert as Hyderabad and other districts received rain. Precautionary measures have to be taken as the rain is expected in some parts of the State for two more days.
