Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao demanded an apology from the Congress leadership to the people of Telangana for allegedly deceiving them by not implementing the promises made under the Scheduled Castes (SC) declaration.

Speaking at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad during the birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on Monday (April 14, 2025), Mr. Rao asked, “What happened to the promises made in the Dalit declaration?” He added that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi should apologise to the people of the State.

The BRS leader claimed that the current dispensation under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had failed to uphold the constitutional values envisioned by Dr. Ambedkar. He said, “If the Constitution had a recall system, Revanth Reddy’s rule would have ended already.”

Former Minister Koppula Eshwar said that Telangana was a realisation of Dr. Ambedkar’s ideals through the Constitution and pointed to the formation of Dalit Bandhu and Gurukul institutions during the BRS regime. Another leader from the party, R.S. Praveen Kumar, accused both the Congress and BJP of undermining Dr. Ambedkar’s Constitution. “The same Congress that once made Ambedkar cry is now pretending to uphold his legacy,” he said.

Legislative Council Opposition leader G. Madhusudhana Chary reiterated that Dr. Ambedkar’s Constitution gave Telangana the strength to emerge as a separate State. Earlier, Mr. Rao and other BRS leaders paid tributes to Dr. Ambedkar by garlanding his portrait.
