Hyderabad: Justice (Retd) Siva Sankar Rao will head the State Police Complaints Authority, while retired district judges K Sudarshan (Hyderabad region) and Y Aravind Reddy (Warangal region) will be chairpersons of the two district police complaints authorities. The govt on Monday issued a govt order (GO) and reconstituted the State and District Police Complaints Authorities.
People can approach the State Police Complaints Authority for complaints against officers of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) rank and above, while for plaints against police personnel below DSP rank, they could petition the two district police complaints authorities.
In compliance with the Supreme Court orders, the Telangana govt had constituted State and District Police Authorities for the first time on Nov 27, 2020, and July 7, 2021, respectively. However, they never became functional as the previous govt did not allocate offices or staff for their functioning. The term of the police complaint authorities was completed, and subsequently, the registrar general, high court, and the secretary, Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) furnished the names of retired judges and retired civil servants to be appointed/nominated for the posts of chairman and members of the respective state and district police authorities as per rules in force. After examination of the details furnished, the govt appointed the panel members to the state and the two district police complaints authorities.
Apart from Justice Siva Sankar Rao, a retired judge of the high court of Andhra Pradesh, the State Police Complaints Authority would have P Pramod Kumar, a retired IPS officer, Varre Venkateshwarlu, an advocate and former member of the State Information commission as members, while the Additional DGP (L&O) would be its member secretary.
Retired district judge K Sudarshan would be the chairperson of the Hyderabad Regional District Police Complaints Authority, while P Rammohan, a former journalist, and Ramanarasimha Reddy, a retired additional SP would be its members. The IG (Multi Zone-II) would be its member secretary. For Warangal Region District Police Complaints Authority, retired district judge Y Aravind Reddy has been named chairperson. Retired IPS officer M Narayana, Dr Samala Rajender would be its members, while the IGP (Multi Zone-I) would be member secretary.
