Over the past couple of days, there have been reports that the Government is gearing up for the Second Phase Land Pooling for Amaravati, and this time, the Government is planning to take around 30,000 to 40,000 acres.
Between 2014 and 2019, the Government has taken around 34,000 acres under the land pooling scheme. There are around 20,000 acres of Government and Forest lands in the area.

So, the YSR Congress ecosystem became active, breaking bangles on Amaravati, calling it a Real-estate scam, ecological destruction, etc.
MA&UD Minister Ponguru Narayana has confirmed that the Government has not taken any decision so far to that extent.

But how did these rumors crop up?
Chandrababu Naidu plans an international airport for Amaravati, and it will need at least 5,000 acres.

After giving returnable plots to the farmers and the creation of infrastructure like roads, the drainage system and allotting lands to some institutions and companies, the Government is left with very little land (only 2000 acres) in Amaravati.
So, the Government had to go for Land Pooling or Land Acquisition for the 5,000 acres needed for the Airport.
If the Land Acquisition is done, the land owners will get 2.5 times the Registered Value.
But when compared to the benefits they derive through land pooling, the land owners will be at a loss.
So, the local people’s representatives are asking the Government to go for Land Pooling instead of Land Acquisition.
But then, if the Government had to retain 5,000 acres for the International Airport, it should pool at least 30,000 acres.
That is because the Government had to prepare the layouts with all facilities. It should also give returnable plots to the farmers.
The 25,000 acres will go to the farmers and infrastructure development.
So that is the story of Amaravati Phase 2 Land Pooling.
But then, this Land Pooling will be a political tool in the hands of the Opposition.
It is for Chandrababu Naidu to take a call if this is necessary.
Chandrababu Naidu is known to be ambitious and is unlikely to give up the idea.
