Vijayawada: Kadapa district police recovered 602 stolen or lost mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 1.8 crore under a special initiative called ‘Operation Mobile Shield.’
Spearheaded by the district’s cybercrime police team, the operation leveraged cutting-edge technologies, including digital forensics, IMEI tracking, network surveillance, and data analytics, to trace and return the devices to their rightful owners.
The operation was launched in response to complaints lodged through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal and the Missing Mobile Tracking System (MMTS) WhatsApp chatbot service. Victims were able to quickly report their stolen devices on these platforms, enabling the police to act swiftly. The MMTS chatbot, operational at the number- 9392941541, has been assisting complainants and streamlining the recovery process.
Kadapa superintendent of police, E G Ashok Kumar, highlighted the district’s consistent progress in mobile recovery operations. He stated that a total of 4,670 mobile phones worth Rs 9.2 crore were recovered in the six phases of ‘Operation Mobile Shield.’ He praised the cybercrime team for its strategic use of IMEI-based tracking, GPS technology, and surveillance tools, which collectively made Kadapa a model district in mobile phone recovery in Andhra Pradesh.
