Director Sampath Nandi’s speech at the Odela 2 success meet has triggered unexpected backlash. The event was meant to celebrate the film’s box office run. However, one particular moment from his speech has now gone viral for all the wrong reasons.

During the event, Sampath praised the team’s efforts. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the technicians and actors who contributed to the film.
But controversy erupted when he addressed a relatively unknown actor named Naveen. He said, “Naveen, your dress is good. Next time, I hope your acting will also be good. I’m not saying this to insult you, but to encourage you.”

While Sampath may have intended the remark as lighthearted feedback, the tone and setting sparked outrage. Saying it at a public event, with cameras rolling, made it feel more like a put-down than constructive criticism.
The clip is making rounds on social media. Many users slammed the director for what they believe was a clear case of public humiliation.

Viewers pointed out that Naveen is a small-time actor, with a name unfamiliar to most. Calling him out in such a manner, especially under the guise of “encouragement,” was widely seen as disrespectful and demoralizing.
Such remarks, even if unintended, highlight a larger problem. They reinforce a culture of hierarchy and insensitivity within the film industry.
“Correcting someone in private is encouragement. Public shaming is not,” one user commented.
Another added, “No matter how small the actor is, he deserves dignity. That was plain rude.”
This incident serves as a reminder to the industry. Respect toward newcomers should never be compromised for the sake of claps or casual laughs.
