Bollywood perfectionist Aamir Khan is all geared up to take on his Taare Zameen Par reputation with Sitaare Zameen Par, a thematic follow-up that replaces tears with laughter but maintains its central theme of understanding.
At a recent China fan interaction—where he has huge popularity—Khan said his character, Gulshan, is quite different from the sympathetic teacher Nikumbh. Rather, Gulshan is a “crude, politically incorrect” basketball coach who has his own personal issues, whose story is one of redemption by coaching a team of neuro-divergent.

The movie, which is a remake of Spain’s Champions (2018), reveals how Gulshan’s gruff personality mellows out as he learns from the life experiences of players with Down syndrome, autism, and other disabilities.
Khan highlighted the sequel’s comic take, referring to it as a “ten steps ahead” shift from the 2007 drama’s themes of inclusivity. Directed by R.S. Prasanna, the project is also Khan’s first on-screen venture with Genelia Deshmukh, bringing new dynamics to the storyline.

With shooting completed in mid-2024 and a June 2025 release planned, Sitaare Zameen Par hopes to combine humor and heartbreak, validating Khan’s ability to balance social messages with mainstream appeal.
Playing Gulshan, he’s going to give a performance that’s quite different from his iconic performances, further establishing himself as a risk-taker.
