The Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defence department concluded Fire Service Week 2025 on Sunday (April 20) with a 5K awareness run at HMDA Grounds, adjacent to Prasad IMAX, in Hyderabad. The run marked the culmination of a week-long series of events aimed at enhancing public awareness about fire safety and emergency preparedness.
Observed annually from 14 to 20 April, this year’s Fire Service Week was held under the national theme, ‘Unite to Ignite: A Fire Safe India’. In Telangana, the campaign featured extensive outreach activities, including demonstrations, fire drills, training sessions, and educational lectures conducted across various types of premises, ranging from hospitals and industries to residential colonies and commercial establishments.
The campaign began with a curtain raiser on April 13, when District Fire Officers across all 33 districts in the State launched Fire Service Week posters in the presence of district collectors, superintendents of police, municipal commissioners, and other senior officials. The formal observance commenced on 14 April at the State Training School in Hyderabad, where Director-General Y. Nagi Reddy paid homage at the Martyrs’ Memorial and reviewed a commemorative parade. Senior officers, including Deputy Director B. Sudhakar Rao and District Fire Officer G.V. Narayana Rao, were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Reddy emphasised the need for fire safety awareness to penetrate every household, workplace, and public facility. He instructed all district officers to implement the department’s action plan to improve public engagement and fire prevention practices.
On the final day, a 5K run brought together Fire department personnel and volunteers in a symbolic show of solidarity and public commitment to fire safety. According to data released by the department, the week’s events saw participation from 64,746 members of the public, with the highest single-day attendance recorded on 19 April at 14,500.
The Director General extended his appreciation to the print, electronic and digital media for their role in amplifying the department’s message and supporting the success of the campaign.
