Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has petitioned the High Court to quash a defamation case brought against him in the Nampally Special Court for People’s Representatives.
The case originates from a speech Reddy delivered during the previous year’s election campaign in Bhadradri Kothagudem.
BJP leader Kasam Venkateshwarlu filed the complaint, claiming Reddy made false statements alleging that the BJP would abolish reservations if they won the election.
Venkateshwarlu provided audio and video recordings of the speech as evidence. Reddy, arguing the case lacks merit, has asked the High Court to quash the proceedings and excuse him from mandatory court appearances. The High Court is scheduled to consider the petition on Thursday.
