Thiruvananthapuram: Jain, a native of Thrissur, has returned home after being trapped with a Russian mercenary group.
He expressed relief at being back and shared that two of his companions were killed during an attack.
Jain had joined the Russian mercenary force after being deceived into believing he would receive a job. After just ten days of training, Jain was taken to the Ukrainian border, where he was injured in a drone attack and subsequently hospitalized in Moscow.
While in the hospital, he released a video message requesting assistance to return home. Jain informed his family that his one-year contract with the Russian Army had expired on April 14, but he feared it might be renewed without his consent.
The Malayalee Association intervened to facilitate his return.
Jain was accompanied by two other young men, Sandeep and Binil, who were also trapped in the mercenary group. Unfortunately, neither of them was able to escape. Binil was killed just a day before Jain was injured, and he witnessed Binil’s death.
At this time, Jain is unaware of the location of Binil’s body, which can only be brought back with the help of the Russian government.
Both Binil and Jain traveled to Russia last April through a family friend, expecting to work as electricians. However, they were duped by a Malayali agent in Russia.
