Hyderabad: A five-month-old baby girl sold for Rs.1.30 lakh was rescued by Hyderabad police in Chandrayangutta on Thursday with the arrest of five persons including a couple. The girl was reunited with her family members at Barkas in Chandrayangutta.
The arrested have been identified as Syed Javeed Pasha (51), an AC technician and resident of Saleemnagar Colony in Malakpet and his wife Shaista Parveen (40), Parveen Banu (40), a beautician and resident of Chilaknagar in Uppal, Jawagi Sunitha Kumari (50) of Uppal and Kappala Rajendra Prasad (39) of Quthbullapur.
Addressing a press conference here, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East Zone, Patil Kantilal Subhash said the police received a complaint stating that a five-year-old girl Mariyam Saadi was kidnapped by unidentified persons from Gandhi statue in Chandrayangutta when she was waiting to purchase chocolates at Kummarvadi. The girl came to Kummarvadi with her uncle Baba Sadi
Upon analyzing several CCTVs footage, the police succeeded in tracing the location of suspects’ residence and a couple was taken into custody. During interrogation, the couple confessed to committing the crime and revealed that they had sold the girl for Rs.1.30 lakh to a woman identified as Parveen Bhanu of Uppal. A police team went to Uppal and rescued the girl.
At the same time, Parveen Bhanu was again attempting to sell the child to two more individuals named Sunitha and Rajendra Prasad. The police apprehended them as well. The investigation further revealed that Rajendra Prasad of Chintal in Jeedimetla was working as an agent at fertility center in Banjara Hills and Sunitha Kumari runs a first aid clinic in Chilukanagar.
Both had previously been accused in a child trafficking case at the Vikhroli police station at East Mumbai in Maharashtra. They, along with other persons from the old city, formed an organized group involved in buying and selling of children.
Subhash said the kidnap was pre-planned by a couple, Javed Pasha and his second wife, Shayista Parveen. With an intention of evading police surveillance after committing the crime, they took several precautions. Javed wore a helmet, while Shayista wore a burqa, and covered the number plate of the motorcycle with a cloth.
They started from Sharif Nagar at night, travelled across various parts of Hyderabad, and kidnapped the child when she was spotted at Kummarvadi. Subhash said a deeper investigation was on to find out the involvement of others in the case.
