Hyderabad: Telangana Endowments department has released the schedule for colourful Bonalu celebrations to be organized in twin cities on a spectacular note in June and July 2025.
The celebrations would begin with the first puja at Sri Jagadamba Mahankali Temple atop Golconda fort on June 26 marking the commencement of almost month-long celebrations at the fort. This will be followed by the second puja and Golconda bonalu on June 29.
The department said a large number of devotees offer bonam in a decorated earthen pot with vermillion and turmeric to the goddess Mahankali atop the fort as thanksgiving after fulfilling their wishes. These celebrations will be organized on every Thursday and on Sunday on July 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20 and 24.
The main bonalu celebrations at the historic Sri Ujjaini Mahankali temple in Secunderabad would be conducted on July 13 and 14. Devotees from different parts of the State take part in the two-day celebrations.
On the first day, the devotee, especially women clad in pattu sarees offer bonam to the Goddess and on the second day, a ‘rangam’ ritual would be performed in which a woman invokes Goddess Mahankali in herself and predicts about the future. She would also answer devotees’ questions during the ritual.
A week later, the bonalu celebrations would be organized at Sri Akkanna Madanna Mahankali temple in Haribowli and Sri Simhavani Mahankali temple in Lal Darwaza both in the old city on July 20 and 21 marking the conclusion of the celebrations.
Like every year, the Endowments department in consultation with the district administration has decided to conduct a coordination meeting with the departments concerned especially with the police department in the first week of June for the successful conduct of the celebrations in June and July. The members of various temple committees in twin cities would also attend the meeting.
