Asserting that the Congress government is committed to working for the welfare of employees and workers, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has said that the government has adopted a planned approach in resolving the problems faced by the working classes.

The 10-year rule of the previous BRS government has seen several hardships for employees and workers. The power sector almost collapsed due to the negligence of the previous government, and it suppressed the strike proposed by the TGSRTC workers resulting in the death of over 50 members. “The previous government has adopted a discriminatory attitude towards employees and workers resulting in untold hardships to them,” he said.

The government has therefore initiated proactive steps like restoring compassionate appointments in the TGSRTC and giving a share in the profits of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited to workers. Steps were initiated to put in place a policy governing the interests of gig and platform workers, he said.

The Chief Minister was participating in the May Day celebrations on Thursday. He said the previous government kept bills worth ₹50,000 crore to contractors pending and another ₹1.2 lakh crore were due in other sectors. The Congress government took over the reins with loans amounting to ₹ 8.29 lakh crore. “Bills submitted by even sarpanches were not cleared by the previous government,” he recalled, adding he and the Ministers were spending sleepless nights to overcome the crisis created by the previous government. The Chief Minister cautioned the working class about the efforts of the main Opposition to hoodwink and provoke them yet again.

The BRS president did not keep his promise of making a Dalit the Chief Minister while his kin (K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao) were speaking ill of the government. “The BRS should at least make a Dalit as the Opposition leader if it is committed to its promise,” he said.
