64 social welfare hostels in Nellore to be renovated by May-end: Collector

District Collector O. Anand on Tuesday said that the State government has sanctioned ₹9.32 crore for the repair works at 64 social welfare hostels across SPSR Nellore district.

The Collector during a review meeting with hostel welfare officers and wardens at the Collectorate ordered the officials to complete all the works, including slab and wall repairs, electrical and water supply, window and door repairs, by the end of this month. 34 hostels have been allotted to the Panchayat Raj Department and 30 to the R&B Department.

Mr. Anand also instructed the ASWOs and wardens to pay special attention to ensure that 100% of the students are accommodated in the hostels. “Steps should be taken to ensure that parents are informed of the facilities being provided by the government,” he said.

He suggested that hostels with inadequate facilities or fewer students should be connected to nearby hostels with better facilities. He also asked the officers to ensure that the number of students in the hostels is not less than 5,900 as specified by the government.

He further reviewed the results of Class 10 students in social welfare hostels and expressed dissatisfaction over the low pass percentage in some hostels.
