The Directorate of Civil Defence will be testing air raid sirens installed in central Delhi at 3 p.m. on Friday (May 9, 2025) and urged people not to panic during the “exercise”, as per an official statement.

“Directorate of Civil Defence will be testing Air Raid Sirens installed at PWD HQ, ITO. The testing will commence at 3 p.m. and be carried out for a period of 15-20 minutes. Accordingly, it is requested that adequate publicity may be made through social and electronic media so that general public are advised to stay calm and not to panic during the said exercise,” the official statement said.

Air raid sirens were sounded in the Union Territory oif Chandigarh on Friday morning (around 9:30 am), following an air warning received from the Air Force station surrounding a possible aerial attack.

People were advised to remain indoors and away from balconies, according to a message issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh.

Later in a post at 10.16 a.m. the Chandigarh admininstration said the alert has ended for the time being.
