Priyank Kharge Slams Ceasefire Decision, Seeks Special Parliament Session

Expressing disappointment over the central government’s ceasefire decision despite the Indian armed forces successfully destroying terrorist bases, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister and Kalaburagi district in-charge, Priyank khargehas urged the Centre to convene a special session of Parliament.

Speaking to reporters in Kalaburagi, Kharge said, “Pakistan is not a nation worthy of trust. Our soldiers struck and dismantled terrorist bases targeting Indian civilians. Yet, a ceasefire was declared. Who made this decision? On what basis was it implemented? What mechanisms are in place if the ceasefire is violated? The government must call a special session and be transparent with the people.”

He questioned the government’s silence over the Pahalgam terror attack.
“What happened to the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack? Where are they now?” he asked, urging the Prime Minister to call a Parliament session to brief the nation on both the terror strike and the ceasefire.

Kharge also criticised the transformation of the Kashmir issue from a bilateral matter between India and Pakistan to an international one involving the United States.
“The Kashmir issue has always been bilateral. But now, America has stepped in, internationalising it. Who is Donald Trump to announce a ceasefire? Have you read his tweets? He used the term ‘common sense’ to condescendingly advise India. Why haven’t the Prime Minister, the External Affairs Minister, or the National Security Advisor clarified the situation to the public?” he asked.

Taking aim at India’s foreign policy, Kharge asserted that diplomacy involves more than symbolic gestures.
“For a strong foreign policy, it is not enough for the Prime Minister to merely hug global leaders — meaningful dialogue must follow. The US has not condemned terrorism. China and Turkey have extended support to Pakistan. And amid all this, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced a loan to Pakistan. The Indian government has failed to persuade the IMF against aiding a country that supports terrorism, creating the perception that our foreign policy is weakening,” he said.

Kharge reiterated the Congress party’s commitment to national interests, stating that it had extended support to the Centre on the matter.

He also expressed dissatisfaction with the media’s handling of the issue.
“The media is glorifying individuals instead of focusing on national interests and facts. Misinformation is rampant. TV panelists and BJP spokespersons are spreading falsehoods. Some even claimed that Karachi has been captured and Pakistan will be split into four parts,” he said.
