Since the bike was serviced and more or less feeling good, I decided to head out for a day ride during the weekend. As always, I didn’t have a plan on which route to take and decided to reach Hoskote first and decide on a direction depending on the how the bike feels. I had fixed the tuning more or less and in city with a pillion, it felt right, but on the highway I realized it is running a bit rich, after covering some distance. It wasn’t bad and the engine was running smooth and I decided to take some inner roads that I haven’t done before. The route was Hoskote-Malur-Kolar-Mulabagal on the main highway, cut off from Mulabagal to Srinivaspur-Chintamani-Sidhlaghatta-Vijaypura town-Devanahalli and back on the airport road. Most of the roads were beautiful single lane roads with less traffic.
I kept fine tuning the carb few times on the way to get the perfect mix of smoothness and power and finally managed to in the last 75 kms. The power felt snatchy whenever I did speeds about 70 kmph for some time. This has been the same on every ride mainly because the piston/cylinder is still stock and run quite a bit and I have a feeling the clearances have reduced. I was at 60-65 kmph most of the times and it felt nice.
I rode around 220 kms in 6 hours and unlike the Interceptor on which I have to keep standing on the pegs or stopping every hour, I could just keep riding this bike comfortably with no pain.
There was some oil smoke when I had stopped and left the bike in idle. I notice this every time the engine does some higher than usual speeds, even in the city. This again is something which I have noticed since long and since the engine runs fine otherwise, I don’t bother much about it. There was a slight noise from the engine side which I haven’t heard earlier, when I was riding at a constant speed. It did sound like it was from the engine when I pulled in the clutch and blipped the throttle while riding, but wasn’t there when I stopped and revved the bike. Maybe it was the helmet filtering the noise.
Bike has run 1,31,300 kms.
