Vijayawada: Visitors to Gandhi Hill were disappointed as the toy train, which serves as the major attraction of the park, has been out of service for nearly 15 months due to ongoing repair works.During summer holidays, hundreds of children are kin about visiting the hill specially to enjoy the view of the city while taking a ride in the toy train.“It is true that the toy train has been under repair for the past 14 months. We are working to complete the repair works at the earliest and reopen the toy train rides for visitors,” said G Rashmi Samaram, a member of the newly formed Gandhi Hill Foundation Committee.Rashmi said the newly formed committee is devising plans to develop more attractions in addition to the existing ones atop Gandhi Hill. “Plans are afoot to construct replicas of Sabarmati Ashram and other ashrams, that MK Gandhi had visited, atop Gandhi Hill. This would help visitors learn more about his history,” she informed.Rashmi explained that after careful deliberation, the committee decided to plan and implement the visionary goals in a phased manner.“Under Phase-1 (2025–2027), basic amenities such as beautification and a facelift of the entry arch, sprucing up the perimeter with greenery and landscaping, re-topping of the approach road from the entry to the stupa, renovating the children’s play area and surrounding zones,” she added.
