Nizamabad Tightens Curbs Ahead Of Bakrid

NIZAMABAD: With Bakrid slated for June 7, the district administration has intensified measures to curb the illegal transportation and slaughter of animals. Special check-posts will be established at interstate borders between Telangana and Maharashtra at Kandakurthi, Salura, Pothangal, and Khandgaon. Additional inter-district check-posts will be set up at Satapur, Yamcha, Indalwai, Ummeda, Jannepally, and Mamidipally.

Authorities said the Telangana Prohibition of Cow Slaughter and Animal Preservation Act, 1977, will be strictly enforced in the district. Awareness drives will also be held to sensitise the public about the legal and ethical implications of cow slaughter and unauthorised animal transport. Revenue and police departments will coordinate the issues to prevent law and order problems in the district.

A district-level coordination meeting was held at the Integrated District Offices Complex on Saturday, chaired by district collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu. Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya, additional collector Ankit, Bodhan sub-collector Vikas Mahatho, RDOs, ACPs and other officials attended the meeting. They discussed the preventive measures of illegal transportation of animals and the slaughtering of cows.

The collector and CP emphasised that animals can only be slaughtered at authorised slaughterhouses and must have certification from the veterinary department. Vehicles and animals involved in illegal transport or slaughter of cows will be seized, they said. They urged the public to report any violations related to the illegal transport or slaughter of cows.
