Exhibitors vs Telugu Producers: June 1st Bandh Deadline

In the context of Telugu movie exhibitors demanding a percentage-based revenue model instead of the rental system, both active producers and exhibitors held their first crucial meeting today.

In today’s meeting, the main agenda was that if producers are not willing to agree, the exhibitors have decided to go on a bandh starting June 1st.

Dil Raju and Suresh Babu attended the meeting, while Suniel Narang was absent. However, Sadanand Goud and Sridhar attended on his behalf.

According to our sources, a few key people from the distribution side also attended the meeting. There was one representative from East, one buyer from Vizag, one from Ongole, and three representatives from Krishna.

Distributors and exhibitors also expressed strong frustration over movies being sold to OTT platforms too quickly. They are demanding that, at the very least, films performing well in theaters should not be released on OTT so soon.

The bandh demand, coming at a time when multiple big releases like Hari Hara Veera Mallu, Thug Life, Kubera etc are scheduled for June, is certainly a concern for producers. However, much will depend on how united the exhibitors remain.

Following this meeting, an official representation will be sent to the Chamber, and there is a possibility of another joint meeting before the June 1st deadline.
