A youth named Sharan was recently detained by Cubbon Park police in Bengaluru after he uploaded a video on Instagram claiming he would storm the Chinnaswamy Stadium pitch during an IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders to hug cricketer Virat Kohli.
The video quickly gained attention online, prompting swift action from the authorities. Sharan was taken into custody and later posted a video apologising, stating he would stay at the police station until the match ended and would not repeat such behaviour.

Bengaluru City Police addressed the incident with wit on social media, warning, “Storming into the field isn’t a power play move! Try it and the next stop will be a police jeep, not a boundary line.”
This is not the first such incident. In May 2024, Instagram influencer Nitin Sequeira had promised to run onto the field during an IPL match if he reached 50,000 followers. After achieving the target, he posted videos claiming he had secured a ticket in the right section to jump onto the pitch.

The police intervened, and Nitin was stopped before any breach could occur. Their response on X read, “Nice try, Buddy! But attempting to breach security during #IPL is a guaranteed six straight into our custody.”
Security breaches during IPL 2025 have become a growing concern. A fan recently ran onto the field during a KKR vs RR match in Guwahati.

Additionally, a week-long suspension of the IPL occurred due to India-Pakistan tensions, affecting team travel and logistics.
It’s nice to see Bengaluru Police have adopted pop culture-infused messaging to engage youth and underline the consequences of violating public safety norms. It is quirky and stern at the same time, making police much more approachable while making youth compliant to cooperation.
