Hyderabad: The Maheshwaram Special Operations Team (SOT), along with the Balapur police, arrested two persons for allegedly possessing country-made firearms, said Rachakonda police commissioner Sudheer Babu on Thursday. The police seized five tamanchas and 18 live rounds from their possession.
The accused, Mohammed Zeeshan, 28, and Mohammed Ameer, 24, both natives of Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, have been residing in Santoshnagar. The two worked in one of the hair salons owned by Zeeshan. Zeeshan was reportedly addicted to alcohol and was finding it difficult to fund his lifestyle. So, he hatched a plan to sell illegal firearms and contacted his friend Arshi Khan in Rampur, who helped him procure the weapons from local manufacturers.
The accused brought five tapanchas to Hyderabad and planned to sell them in the city. On Thursday, while they were heading to their Balapur salon, police intercepted them near Royal Colony and seized the weapons. “Our teams have averted the formation of a major racket, as their intention was to sell them to criminal elements,” Sudheer Babu said at a press conference.
Five country-made firearms, 13 live 8mm rounds, five 12-gauge shotgun shells, and two mobile phones were recovered from them. A case was registered at Balapur Police Station under the Arms Act, and the accused were remanded to judicial custody.
