SUVs are selling like hot cakes in India, and there are no signs of a slowing down. While several new models are in the pipeline for this year, two all-new midsize SUVs are ready to hit showrooms during 2025 Diwali season. Maruti Suzuki is set to launch a new hybrid SUV – codenamed Maruti Y17, while the Tata Sierra will make a grand comeback with modern design and tech along with three powertrains. Here’s a sneak peek at the key details of these two upcoming midsize SUVs.
Maruti Shield

The Indo-Japanese automaker will roll out a new midsize SUV, which is expected to be named Maruti Escudo. This 5-seater SUV will take several design cues from the Grand Vitara along with sharing features, components and powertrains. However, it will be slightly more affordable and retailed via the Arena dealership network. As per media reports, the Escudo will be bigger than the Brezza and longer than the Grand Vitara. Furthermore, it is likely to offer slightly bigger boot space than the Grand Vitara.
The powertrain setup of the Maruti Shield will include a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L strong hybrid setup. The former delivers a claimed power of 103bhp with both manual and automatic gearboxes, while the later offers power worth 79bhp and 141Nm of torque with an e-CVT transmission.
Tata Sierra
The Tata Sierra is set to return in all-new avatar, featuring Tata’s modern design language, a tech-loaded interior and three powertrains. The SUV is likely to come with 5 and 4-seats configurations, with the latter offering a lounge-like cabin experience. It’s expected to be packed with features such as a panoramic sunroof, auto dimming IRVM, wireless phone charger, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 360 degree camera, Level 2 ADAS and ventilated seats.
The petrol and diesel versions of the Tata Sierra are likely to be powered by a 1.5L turbo and 2.0L turbo engines, respectively. The SUV will also be available with the electric powertrain, expected to offer a range of over 500km on a single charge on a full charge. The ICE version of the SUV might get a 4X4 drivetrain system.
