
Suriya’s Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, was released in theaters on May 1st and received a mixed reception from both audiences and critics.
Following its disappointing theatrical run, Retro began streaming on Netflix across five languages—Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi—starting May 30th.

However, viewers who watched the dubbed versions have expressed significant dissatisfaction, particularly with the quality of the dubbing.
The Malayalam dubbed version of the song “Kanimaa” has drawn widespread criticism and become a troll fest on social media, with many calling it a low-effort production and criticizing the team behind it.

“Kanimaa” was one of the few better parts of an otherwise boring and bland film, Retro. Now, even that song has been ruined in the Malayalam version on Netflix.

Despite hopes from Suriya’s fans that Retro would find redemption through its OTT release, the film continues to receive negative feedback from streaming audiences and remains a target for online trolling.
