Hyderabad: Maganti Gopinath, the sitting MLA of Jubilee Hills constituency, passed away on Sunday morning following a massive heart attack. He was 63.
Doctors at AIG Hospitals, Gachibowli, declared him dead at 5:45 am.
According to a medical bulletin, Gopinath was admitted to the hospital on June 5 around 2:56 pm after suffering a major heart attack at his residence. He was also undergoing treatment for kidney-related complications, having recently undergone surgery.
A senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Gopinath was a three-time MLA. He was first elected from Jubilee Hills in 2014 on a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ticket before switching to the BRS.
He retained the seat in both 2018 and 2023, most recently defeating Congress candidate and former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin.
Born on June 2, 1963, in Hyderguda, Gopinath completed his BA from Osmania University. His political journey began in the 1980s as the president of Telugu Yuvatha, the youth wing of the TDP, a position he held from 1985 to 1992.
His sudden demise has come as a shock to political circles and his constituents, with many expressing condolences over the loss of a leader known for his accessibility and grassroots connect.
